I decided to roll back to 1.51 a couple days ago since i didnt wanna spend 20 minutes building a defense line from hell and have the game crash when the ai spams armored cars or something. Today i played a level called operation husky, and some funny bug or something keeps popping up. When i built a panther and sent it into combat (this level has like 90% of resources split near each side's bases, basically each side gets like huge resources especially axis whose base is connected by a single bridge and route over a small body of water for infantry and can get like 300 ammo and fuel without leaving) its line of sight if i remember correctly should be the main guns range at least (i click the attack ground button and it goes out pretty far b4 you cant fire it) but instead it was very short to what i remember it being unless im somehow very mistaken. Funny thing is the tiger's range was normal for example, but the panzer 4 wasnt and the sight line was extended to about the range to the friendly territory ending although this might be coincidence ( a flak gun was there but its line of sight i think came from a squad of grenadiers since it usually extends to its range but was slightly shorter). I played another map once and had something very similar happen when i had a pz4, but i then played another map and it was normal. Although that time i thought it was because i had saved a skirmish game and something related to the fact the sight line got funny after it went into enemy territory, and it was slightly different otherwise. Anyone had this happen? I cant really figure out why it happens or what causes it, although i sort of think its map related maybe.

(edit the tigers sight line got a little shorter when i took out the tank crew and moved it back a bit maybe the tank crew is why it seems normal?)

edit #2 i just tried another large map its happening again (very very weird when a pioneer can see farther than a tank and the tank can barely see 5 feet (it looks like the default coh range that the tank can see maybe) in front of itself when considering a panther for example or any tank really had sights and binoculars etc maybe something has screwed itself when i installed kmod or i am very mistaken and never noticed the tanks sight ranges were shorter than the infantries lol im so sick of reinstalling i might just wait for next kmod version and hope that helps ( i only got this problem once b4 a while back before i started reinstalling coh and kmod after 1.61 hotfix i think that i remember although i dont play kmod much lately so who knows i rarely had panther or panzer 4 alone without infantry so i might not notice)

I am pretty sure that was done on purpose because you need to put a tank crew in order to operate the tank. I am not sure, not tested it, but I think you can put other units in the tank as well. This is what you are referring to as a bug. I could be wrong, but I don't think it's a bug. The tanks are suppose to operate that way.

CODERS... suggestions?

The thing that makes it seem weird to me is i dont remember having a tank drive into the enemy or friendly territory and having a at gun engage it to death because the tank can barely see anywhere around it while the at gun can see the tank alot sooner since the tank has longer range, but its line of sight almost looks shorter than regular coh.

EDIT if only i could figure out how to show a damn screenshot of it cause i have no idea how and it would probably answer whether its normal or not (the tank ive tried most is the panther)

edit #2 just to clear things up if theres any doubt since it seems ur talking about the tank crew, i mean not just the tiger seems funny but the panther, panzer 4, maybe a couple others i havent really looked at them all and what i mean is the distance the tanks can see seems really too short to me like default coh short when the tanks range is alot longer (really need to figure out how to post a screenshot or something)

Does this look right to everyone?

If i remember correctly the line of sight should be bigger around the tank.

That sounds about right to me...
A howitzer can shoot for nearly 200km (real life) and it cant see that 200km.
An 88mm tank gun can shoot (not sure exactly distance) but for absolutly miles, And not always see that far.

hah guys guys, did you ever think that i did this because without infantry or scouts finding targets for a tank, tanks really were not aware of their surroundings. im going to pretend the pintle MG gunner is blind or something, to force players to use infantry and tanks in combine arms attacks. sending in a tank without scouts or infantry spotters in the lead, your tank WILL be picked off and not work to it's full potential.

I like the idea of having the infantry walking with the tank. Maybe part of the tank crew that is built could "not fit" inside the tiger and have to follow it around as scouts.

Huh i must not be paying attention then, cause i could swear that the tanks line of sight was at least to the maximum range (current and the version i have on now) or at the very least much more than that. Im almost 100% sure i used a panzer 4 numerous times without infantry (i havent played many mods and only 1 previous version of kmod and that was a while back along with the fact of how the games played had to be kmod and i never had the levels i played on where the line of sight is as large as i remember until after i put on kmod 1.39f) and sometimes a panther (i use tiger more since panther takes up fuel) and had its line of sight right to its range (much larger than in the picture i posted) with no other units around in this same version of kmod as now (or as i said at the very least larger than in the picture), but then again i could just wait for the next version of kmod and see if im gonna be so picky of it and the fact i put the patches on except 1.7 and im not reinstalling coh if i can help it again (insert frustrating number of reinstalls of coh here lol). The thing that gets me is that its seems very different every time i think about it (and played it) since the last time i remember putting on this version of kmod (thing that gets me is if i get a mindset that something is wrong i cannot get myself to play the mod or any mod or the original game for that matter that seems to have a problem that effects the way it plays).

it IS possible i screwed up the LOS for the panther, or tiger, and either

A) increased it by mistake

or

B) forgot to decrease it.

XD it happens man, being a coder isnt easy

The thing that gets me about it the panther for example i remember the los was like the range of the gun (pretty damn long), and now when i put it on it seems shorter (the panzer 4's also looked shorter). Who knows it could be a glitch,it could be download, it could be intended and i dont pay attention the list goes on and on. Ill probably just wait for the next version and see and if its like that in that version then ill probably live with it (the reason it bugs me is the same version magically changedomg ). Although i wonder if it has something to do with the installer as i had the installer that had the screwed up install path that said relic instead of thq and then when i had problems with 1.61 and hotfix i downloaded a installer that was different but had the right path instead of relic.

Something that ive recently been reminded of when i bough Red Orchastra is that tankers really cant see anything, and they rely on eather sticking their heads out of the hatches (which i believe we can not make them do with COH) or rely on infantry to scout out stuff for them. Tanks can see far, but not on their sides and rear. They are looking out of little slots in the tanks.

Enough Said!
Kyranzor has stated that it is intended for the use of tactics

Well, if it was intentionally lowered (im not too sure, im only to to the dev-team) it would make sence, a 76mm gun could shoot upto 8km + and I highly doubt the crew could see that far.

i calculated (using my awesome skillz in vertical and horizontal projectile motion) that a flak 88mm cannon shooting at 45 degrees (optimum angle of firing) it can cover something like 14km :D

i cant remember the time it took, but it was at least 2-3 minutes i believe
